Last week the Halifax Regional Municipality voted on their new Regional Council and Mayor. We would like to congratulate all the new and returning Councillors into their roles. At Sightline we strive to develop strong relationships with the local councillors, so that our projects are informed by their constituents and meet the needs of their communities. We hope that over the next four years, the Sightline team is able to earn the trust of this Council to create beautiful and diverse spaces for the Halifax region. Being a member of Regional Council is not an easy task, there are lots of difficult decisions and important roles to play.  Especially in a municipality like Halifax where unprecedented growth and change have shifted the demands of the Council.

Regional Council makes all kinds of decisions that effect planning including approving requests for planning applications, ratifying the Regional Planning Strategy, and amendments to Municipal Planning Strategies. Regional Council also makes decisions on new infrastructure, programming, and resources that impact all of our communities. It is important to understand the role of your Councillor and reach out to them about issues facing you and your community. Their purpose is to serve the public good and ensure that the Halifax Region is economically thriving, sustainable and inclusive.

We are confident that the region has selected these community members wisely, and that they will lead our communities to better and brighter futures.

We’d like to offer a special congratulations to the new mayor, his worship Andy Fillmore. Mayor Andy Fillmore has been representing Halifax on the federal stage for the past 9 years, and we are excited to have him lead the municipality in this new capacity. As a former city planner, Mayor Fillmore has the insight and knowledge of planning practices to steer Halifax towards healthier, more complete and diverse neighbourhoods.
